Answer each admissions interview question with at least 3 to 5 clear, intelligent, honest and enthusiastic sentence responses.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how badly do you want to attend (Iolani, Punahou, Mid-Pacific Institute, Kamehameha, Hawaii Baptist Academy, Maryknoll, etc)?
Sample Answer:
I would say a "10" because your school has good teachers and is known for pushing kids to be their best. (If applicable) Also, I’m involved in sports / martial arts / dance / music and would love to participate in this program at your school. (If applicable) I’m really into computers, and it’s great to know that your school mixes technology with learning. (If applicable) Finally, my brother / sister / cousin goes to your school, and has a lot of good things to say about your teachers, courses and programs.
Sample Question:
Would you consider yourself a below-average, average or above-average student?
Sample Answer:
I would consider myself an above-average student because I’ve always had good grades in school and have respect for my teachers. I believe I do well because my parents push me to do all my homework and study hard for tests. I am currently involved in student government and would love to pursue leadership opportunities at your school. Also, I’ve had good relationships with my teachers, and I work well with other students during group projects. Finally, I feel I’m “well-rounded” because I participate in sports / martial arts / dance / music and don’t just study all the time.

Friendly Reminders...
Relax, don’t be scared, don’t worry (Easy for me to say!). Be on your best behavior socially speaking, but be yourself! Wear comfortable clothes appropriate to the occasion. Use minimal makeup. Keep your hairstyle simple. Think positive! The school will be trying to sell itself to you as much as you are trying to sell yourself to it.
Don’t panic. If you don’t know the answer to the interviewer’s questions, say so! Look the admissions officer in the eye and admit that you do not know the answer. Ask questions about the school, its programs and facilities. Find out how it can help you achieve your goals. Think before you answer. Avoid mannerisms such as "like" and "you know".
You may want to keep an index card handy with questions you want to ask. Give truthful answers. If you are not an "A" student, admit it and tell the interviewer how you plan to achieve better results. When the interview is over, record your observations and compare with your parents. Send a Thank You note to your interviewer. It will speak volumes for your ability to follow through and your personal sincerity.
Tips...
Do NOT display tattoos or pierced body parts! Do NOT chew gum or anything else. Shake hands firmly and confidently. Look the person in the eye.
